Ekiti 2014: PDP Adopts Omoyeni as Governorship Candidate

OMOYENIDAILY TIMES – Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti seem to have swiftly moved to heed President Goodluck Jonathan’s counsel to come up with a consensus candidate for the 2014 gubernatorial elections for the state.
The Ikere Local Government chapter of the party have unanimously adopted and endorsed a one-time deputy governor of Ekiti State and former Group Managing Director/CEO of Wema Bank, Mr. Bisi Omoyeni as her sole governorship candidate in the upcoming governorship election.
Briefing the media at the end of an extra-ordinary meeting of the expanded local government party executive committee in Ikere Thursday, the chairman of the party in the local government, Hon. Toba Ogunmusan explained that Bisi Omoyeni’s experience, track record of untainted service, performance and intimidating credentials cannot be overlooked if PDP really wants to win the coming governorship election in Ekiti.
According to Ogunmusan, “apart from the fact that Ekiti South has not produced a governor since the inception of the state in 1996, Bisi Omoyeni is a non-controversial politician, he has good rapport with the party hierarchies and all other governorship aspirants, who would prefer to work with him as the candidate of the party.”
Highlighting Omoyeni’s qualities and qualifications historically, the party chairman pointed out that “Omoyeni’s father is from Ikere, while his mother is from Ado, which implies he would enjoy the so-called home boy advantage in two major municipal local governments with the highest voting strength in the state in the general election.
“The votes cast in Ado and Ikere have historically determined the victory of governorship candidates. More importantly, he has total support and control of his home; hence the possibility of this unanimous adoption. Omoyeni is equally popular in all the other local government areas of the state” he concluded.
The communiqué for the adoption and endorsement of Bisi Omoyeni was signed by the Ikere local government expanded party executive, which include all the 11 ward chairmen, and the 17 local government executive council.
According to information from the party’s hierarchy, the Ekiti State PDP governorship flag-bearer will officially emerge by the end of January 2014 and this will set the agenda for the June election, as the other two major parties in the state have chosen their flag-bearer.
